 February 22, 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We want to thank those of you who filled out the parent surveys and got those back to us.  We really appreciate the feedback.
The Great American Hero Biography forms are now due, and there are some we have not received yet.  We need these forms so that we can write the program our students will be performing in May.
Science Expo: Be sure to read and fill out the Science and Engineering Expo registration form that your child will bring home today.  S/he will need to sign up for either an experiment, an invention, or a research project that they would like to do for the Science Expo.  The registration form will need to be turned in by Monday, March 6th.  We will be doing the actual Science Expo on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.  The students will present their projects in their own classrooms that morning.  You (parents and other interested parties) are invited to come view them from 2:45 to 3:30.  This science expo is just for fifth grade students.  Students can go home with parents, but they will have to wait until 3:30 to do this.  If you need a board for this project, you can purchase one at the office for $5.00, or you can purchase one at Walmart, JoAnn’s, etc., for around the same price.
Worker’s Holiday:  We have only two weeks left until the end of third quarter.  Be sure to check your child’s missing assignment sheet and see if s/he is missing anything.  All missing work will need to be turned in by Monday, March 13th.  Students who have all work turned in and 80% or higher will qualify for Worker’s Holiday. We are taking those students swimming in the morning of March 14.  We need four parents (willing to get in the water) to chaperone us on this day.  Please let us know if you would like to help out with this.
The next progress report will be sent home on Tuesday, March 7th.  This will be the final printout for third quarter.  Let me know if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Payne

5th Grade Newsletter
February 8, 2016

Thank you so much for attending parent-teacher conferences.  We enjoyed meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress. If your child has not turned in his/her 6th grade registration form, we need it please.  Let’s keep doing the good things that we have been doing, and work to make the improvements on the things we discussed.  A Parent survey is included today. (Some of Mrs. Payne’s parents have already completed this.) We have written in some explanations of what some of the questions are asking, to help clarify them. Please fill out the survey and send it back with your child.
We are already at mid-term for third quarter.  We will be having a Worker’s Holiday this Friday, February 10 in the afternoon.  This will be a game day. Students can bring board games and other fun games to play with each other.  They may also bring a few healthy snacks.  All missing work is due tomorrow Thurs., Feb. 9 in order to earn Worker’s Holiday.  Students must have an 80% overall total, and have no missing work in order to earn Worker’s Holiday.   Those not earning Worker’s Holiday, will be able to work on missing assignments during this activity in another room.
Students will be selecting their Famous American on Monday, February 13.   Students need to select famous Americans from the list. We draw names and the students select in that order, so they may not get their first, second, or even third choice.(Make a list of your top ten.) Students will be given a report form to complete about their selected person. The  Famous American report is due by Tues., Feb 21. Students have been told that they are NOT to paint their skin a different color to indicate race, although regular make-up is fine to help define their character. Students will need to come up with a costume.  Each student will get a script, with a part to memorize, in April.  Further information will be sent as this gets closer.
We are not having a “science fair”, but will be doing a SCIENCE SHARE FAIR.  Students will not be judged, but will present their project in class and then set it up in the classrooms to share with parents in the afternoon. We will be talking about the different types of projects that they can do in science class and information about this will be sent home fairly soon.  These will be due at the end of March.  Being able to present scientific information is a 5th grade standard, so this will be required for all students.
Students will be sharing their Valentines the last hour of the day in the individual classrooms.
The next newsletter will be posted on Wed., Feb 22.
Please sign the verification slip stating that you have read this letter and checked Power School, and return it with your child.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Williams, Mrs.Little, & Mrs. Payne
