          22-24th-Thanksgiving Holiday

21st-Christmas Vacation Begins

We were impressed with the maturity of your children during the Veteran’s Program last Friday. They sang with enthusiasm and were respectful throughout the program. We were very proud of them!
Next Tuesday is our Maturation Program. Boys will meet in the gym and girls will meet in the library (2:00 PM).  Usually, dads attend with their sons and moms attend with their daughters (but you can go wherever you are comfortable :). If you can’t make it, your child can sit with a friend.  You can go home together afterward.
Our Worker’s Holiday will be a movie, next Tuesday morning.  Remember, students need to have an 80% and no missing assignments in order to attend.  We would love to see every student earn this!
We want to give another push for the free tutoring program, taught by SUU students.  This is for all students in the district, and is held at North Elementary in the STEM tutor center. It is open Tuesdays 3:30-8:00 PM, Wednesdays 1:30-5:00 PM, and Thursdays 3:30-8:00 PM. This is for K-12 grades. The center will be closed during SUU’s fall recess (December 15 -January 8).
We have received spelling bee lists that we can forward on to you, if you are interested. They are from previous years and would be beneficial in preparing students for the school’s spelling bee.  Let us know if you’d like some of these lists.
Mrs. Payne’s class should have taken home a spelling list on Monday.  The test will be on Friday.  For your benefit, a list will be on her blog.

We hope you have a relaxing and rejuvenating Thanksgiving Holiday!

FIFTH GRADE NEWSLETTER
Wednesday, November 1, 2017

Parents,
We hope all of you had a happy and safe Halloween.  It is hard to believe that November is already here.
Remember that all Reflections are due this Friday, November 3rd.  Mrs. Davis did some fun art projects with the students, so we hope that a few students chose to enter those in the Reflection contest.
On Friday, the 10th of November, the fifth grade classes will be taking a bus over to the Veteran’s Memorial Park Center to sing for the Memorial service.  If you would like to go watch your child sing at this Memorial, students will be singing at 10:00 am.  The students will be walking back to the school after they perform, so they will need to make sure and bring good walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather that day.
The next print out will be on Wednesday, November 15th, so the first Reading Revolution Book Report for second term will be due on Tuesday, November 14th. (This is just for Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Little’s classes).  Mrs. Payne’s students are expected to read three (3) more books this term, and Reading Journals are due each Wednesday.
The Maturation Program is coming up, as well.  Remember this will be on Tuesday, November 21st at 2:00.  The ladies will be in the library and the gentlemen will be in the gym.  Parents are welcome to take their child home with them after the presentation.  This will be the Tuesday before we are out for Thanksgiving Break.  Students will be out for the Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 22nd through Friday, November 24th.
We wanted to make parents aware of a tutoring program that is available to the public.  It is located at North Elementary and is run by college students from SUU.  This is for students that are in grades K-12th and it is FREE…  The days students can attend are Tuesdays from 3:30 to 8:00 pm, Wednesdays from 1:30 to 5:00 pm and Thursdays from 3:30 to 8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity, so if your child needs help in math, writing, language etc. and you don’t have a lot of time on your hands to help them,  make sure to check the tutors out at North Elementary.
We appreciate all that you do to help us with your children in making sure they succeed.
                                                                           Sincerely,

Mrs. Little, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Williams
